We crave–WE NEED–one lazy morning a week. With school, multiple school pick up times, three nights of soccer, a night of dance, two-three soccer games a weekend, two baby monitoring appointments a week plus an extra OB appointment, family functions and keeping up with the house, laundry, grocery shopping and blogging on top of being very pregnant means we need one morning a week to just be.
We usually do something special for breakfast. Hudson is in charge of coffee. One of the kids might help Ross with some waffles or pancakes, Ross lets me sleep in and we just hang as a family. It really is some of my favorite time.
My kids’ obsession with helping is off the charts, especially in the kitchen. Their version of helping isn’t always so helpful. The Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls we rocked for our lazy Sunday morning were perfect for including the kids without the stress of mess and mistakes.
Stealing one of these mornings during the weekend to bond with the kids centers me. The entire family together, no barking orders or rushing. Time to simply be together.
They thought they were pretty yummy.
Hudson does this happy dance when he eats something he is loving. There was a definite happy dance during this. I joked with Ross that I should have taken video. I get it–that is how I feel on the inside when I have something delicious too.
I went to get forks and turned around and they were already stuffing them in their faces–whatever works! I think my favorite part of Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls for a lazy morning was how simple they were to make with the kids and how easy the cleanup was.
Some traditions can be so simple, but offer such stability and security for children. For us, that morning in the middle of all the busy gives us a safe and stress-free way to connect and enjoy each other. One way we create a secure base is by carving out time for lazy mornings to reconnect. It is over a special breakfast treat, snuggles and my coffee that the conversations happen, the random comes up, the silly comes out. One of the hardest things about my children growing up is sending them off into the world and missing them. I want to trust them, empower them and make them feel comfortable with who they are and the choices they make. I want to know them, truly know them, no matter how old they get or how much time they are away from me, which means we need time as a family without the rush or the stress.
What do you do to connect with your family?
