Seven starts with balloons and streamers.
On Tuesday, October 6th Quinn turned seven. Seven sounds sounds so old. It just so happened I was 37 weeks (full-term) with our fourth (and most likely last) on his birthday. Talk about things coming full circle!
I’m bummed that I didn’t remember to grab a picture with my guy until I was tucking him into bed.
We packed a lot into the day. He did a half day of school. We picked him up for lunch. He picked Culvers–no surprise there. He really wanted to go to the movies, but I was a bit nervous since it was just me and Hudson has never been to a movie.
We saw Transylvania 2 and Hudson did awesome. At one point he said, “All done big TV now”, but he managed to stay in his seat and finish the movie. In between the movie and soccer practice for Quinn we squeezed in some park time. After soccer we grabbed dinner at Texas Roadhouse.
You guys–I love this boy bigger than I could ever put into words. He is some kind of special. We celebrated him on Friday before his birthday. Life gets crazy busy and a week before the party Ross and I sent out a group text to family inviting them over Friday night to celebrate Quinn. With all we have going on, the thought of pulling together a party, the money, the time– was all really exhausting. We kicked off the party by singing happy birthday to Quinn. I like to do it first, before the mess and chaos ensues. Quinn was so completely touched and overwhelmed by the love–his tears brought tears to my eyes.
This is why we do it. Because nothing beats filling up your kid with love and showing them how special they are!
While Quinn was at school on Friday we did the party prep, which included baking his cake. Hudson was the official taste-tester. We decided to go with a camp theme since we were inviting everyone over for hot dogs, s’mores and a campfire.
We made the Hershey’s “Perfectly Chocolate” Chocolate Cake and Frosting recipe. It was moist and yummy. To make the fire we melted Werther’s Original candies and red jolly ranchers on some tin foil in the oven at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes. Crush them before hand so they melt easier. Once your melted glob is cooled, crack off pieces to be your flame.
Our decorations were pretty simple for the party. We designed a few printables to set the mood. The camp theme went great with my stick wreath. Just dug out a lantern from Christmas and a piece of scrap plaid fabric.
It seemed that everyone had tons of fun. The kids ran around and played well into the dark, which they thought was pretty cool.
We interrupted the fun for presents. Quinn actually got quite a few gift cards and lots of books. He is a very spoiled little boy!
We absolutely loved making him feel so special. Quinn wants to change the world. He wants to be just about everything when he grows up. He loves reading and still gets lost playing in his imagination. He loves sports and climbing. His strength is pretty impressive. He still loves babies and enjoys playing with them. He is pretty incredible at math and really loves challenging himself. He is eager to learn. He is still very much my little boy–not too cool to hug me or hold my hand and he still loves snuggling up with his mom.
If you’ve got little ones you need to celebrate and are looking to go the camping theme route, grab the printables below.
